Spring Has Sprung, For Real

Spring is a positive affirmation from the Mother Earth, without uttering a word. It is a time of rebirth, Passover, Easter, new blossoms, spring harvests of fruits and vegetables, a promise of hope. For me, spring represents an exodus of sorts.

Exodus in the bible refers to the time and circumstances when the Israelites left Egypt and were freed from slavery under the guidance of Moses. When we move through spring, we leave behind the cloak of winter. In our lives we also can shed those labels and layers which no longer describe or serve us. We can sense freedom in the air in the spring.

How do we do this? I suggest writing down on a piece of paper a list of the stuff that weighs you down. I suggest writing down what you want relief from. Take another sheet of paper and write down the possible resolutions. There is nothing we can do that is instantaneous and resolved, but seeing resolutions in writing help us figure out a way to take actionable steps.

My next move personally is to bounce these papers' contents off of someone I trust. Listening to the loving answers and suggestions from someone I love means I can do something. Notice I didn't say try something or think something. I said do something. One actionable step is a step toward your own rebirth and spring.

When we can check one item off the list, it is truly awesome. My goal to have my third book published in the spring or summer of 2016 is coming to fruition. That is only one thing on my list, but it leaves me smiling.

What are you ready to release? I want to hear from you.

Blessings,
KJ Landis

The Power of Purpose

When we were little kids we explored the world through our five senses, and hopefully we were guided well by our elders. We were just starting out and enthusiastic about everything, yet adults peered lovingly into our youthful eyes and asked, "What do you want to be when you grow up?"

"Be? I want to be me! I still will want to be me, in all the magic of what that means." This is what was running through my 8 year old mind, but politely I answered with something appropriate that I knew the grownup wanted to hear. The answer changed as often as the question asked.

Children are exploring their way through experiences and trying to maneuver challenges just like grownups are, yet we expect them to know what career they want that will define their goals as good or bad in society's judgmental eyes.

I am politely asking you all to back up, back off, and hold your horses for just a few moments. Reflect on the younger you. What would you say to your younger self now? What loving advice would you give that will serve your younger self well throughout this journey on earth? Would it really be career advice, advice on what to do in order to make money?

For me, I would whisper to my younger self the power of purpose. "Every day, if you wake up with a positive and loving purpose to do no harm, teach someone something great by a gesture or a smile, then you have figured it all out. Power can come from gentle movements, not always a storm. The power of your personal goals change as the goals themselves change. The power of your purpose moves and changes because everything and everyone changes. That is the only constant, my sweet younger self."

If one is lucky enough to have figured out the power of purpose over and over as one changes, and then shares the positive shifts with the world, the world is a better place for having one in it.

What is your purpose today? What was it ten years ago? Can you smile at your life well lived? Can you wake up to the power of your purpose?

I want to hear from you!
Blessings,
KJ Landis

How to Eat Out While on HCG

HOW TO EAT OUT ON HCG: Phase 2, Low Calorie and Low Fat Portion of the Protocol

When eating out in restaurants on Phase 2 of HCG, the low calorie, low fat portion of the protocol, one must remember that the customer is paying for the food and the rental of the table and seat in the restaurant. The customer has the right to ask for special preparations at best, and the server should know what is in the menu items at the very least. If the server doesn't know, he or she may ask the chef exactly how the food is prepared. This goes for any eating style or restrictions one may have.

First, seek out the restaurant menu on the internet. Most good quality restaurants will have a presence on line. Second, call ahead and ask questions. What kind of oil do they use? Are they using local and sustainable produce? Is their meat grass fed and grass finished? Remember, lamb is always grass fed and grass finished because lamb refuse to eat grains. Are they cooking wild caught fish and seafood?

When I ate out during my HCG journey, my first safe place was a sushi restaurant. I ordered sashimi, which means no rice, and they usually shred white radishes for the presentation. Ask for extra radishes. I always asked for scallops, octopus, saba, halibut, and any white fleshed fish. You can order grilled squid or fish cheeks, and remember to ask them to use zero oils. Fish have their own oils. Ask for lemon and salt on the side. Hold the regular soy sauce because it has GMO soy and wheat. Better yet, bring your own pink Himalayan salt and coconut amino sauce for your own soy flavor. Drink lots of green tea. Green tea has been found to assist in fat burning when consuming nine cups or more per day. Eat extra pink ginger because they don't use sugar when pickling it.

After success with the sashimi, I ventured out to a huge Asian buffet restaurant. I know it wasn't organic, but I could maneuver through the salad vegetables and plain grilled seafood and meat. Cold, steamed crab legs and shrimp were good anywhere because they were prepared with no dressings or oils.

Then I was invited to the Outback Steak House. I ordered lobster tails, where two is good for protein portion size, and I had a side of steamed spinach. Most commercial restaurants will steam veggies. Middle Eastern and Indian restaurants have lamb shank or shish kebabs on the grill. Ask for cold or grilled tomatoes and peppers, onions on the skewers or on the side. Add your own coconut oil or give to the server to give to the server to pass on to the chef to prepare your meal with.

I even ate at Sizzler! I ordered the salad bar with all the raw plain veggies. I made my own dressing with their vinegar, lemons, and mustard. You can add the ground beef on the salad from the taco area. One scoop is about 3 and a half ounces, which is appropriate for Phase 2.

If you go on vacation during the low calories phase, you can treat yourself with half and half in the coffee with no detriment or sway from the fat loss. You may use 2 tablespoons per day in the coffee. If you feel like a planned treat, try a Quest bar for lunch or dinner. Remember, a planned treat is not a cheat. Do not beat yourself up mentally afterward.

I hope this helps. Remember, if you are super stressed about eating out during this time, the fat loss will slow down due to the body's hormonal reaction to the anxiety. It is not worth it if you become a mess internally over a restaurant or social event.

The D Word: Death

4/4/2016

Picture
In our western society, we humans do not like to talk about death. Especially, we try to spare our children from the suffering, pain, and loss of death. I think perhaps because my recent experiences with family and friends passing, even young children passing, it is a quality of this life that I cannot put on the back burner anymore.

It is like an undergarment for me now. When I get up in the morning, I am grateful that I am breathing and can maneuver through another day. Being aware of death in everyday life means that we can appreciate the small moments and little kindnesses with a secret magnifying glass. Even my children have been noticing the shifts in our family life because they cannot go on being selfish and material when they witness that it all drops off. It all falls away. We love deeply and without words our friends, family, art, music, and spirit, more than our first car, phone, or computer. Then it all fades away. It doesn't seem fair, does it? I believe two things bind us, all creatures big and small: love and death.

What would you grab if your house were on fire, if you had to save your own life in a minute? When I was a child I put all of my special material things in my room in a large black garbage bag, just in case. I kept the bag near my bedroom door, checking its contents daily for two weeks. One day during spring cleaning time when I went to school, my mother called the Salvation Army to pick up some bags and boxes of things the family no longer needed. She saw the bag in my room and gave it to the men in the big truck who came that day. When I arrived home from school and discovered the precious bag missing, I wailed for its loss, like a death of a friend. My mother said she was sorry and would replace what she could. After a couple of weeks, I didn't miss those things at all anymore, and forgave my mother sooner than that. This lesson learned was so monumental for a young girl. Things we can replace, but people we cannot.

This prepared me for losing the family tradition of being a collector, a pack rat. When I modeled from country to country for eleven years, I easily shed the things that wouldn't fit into my suitcase. I always packed too much, and then let things go. Even our closest pals die. Our family, our lovers leave us for another realm. Practicing letting go of the material allowed me to see the bigger picture.

So what doesn't leave? Our essence, our legacy, our love, joy, bliss, juju. Death also leaves those behind with the birth of creativity along with coping, of thriving after surviving. After my brother's death I was able to fully finish the chapter on death in my third book. I honor his life and his love with my books and my yoga practice. I dedicate one pose to him daily.

What has death birthed inside of you? I want to hear your story.

Blessings,
KJ Landis
