Be Happy Now

I'd like to share with you some thoughts about enjoying the journey of life and being happy now. I think you are deserving of the very best in life. I know it because I see beauty everywhere, and it is a reflection of us humans and our positive intentions.

We all have goals, and we try and meet those goals with our efforts. Along the way, sometimes we seem to be lost in the struggle. The strife and the effort is all we are focusing on. It can be like a cage, or a tunnel vision.

I say during the the journey, pause to  be happy with who you are now and what you are now along the way. Appreciate your energy given toward the movement forward in realizing those long term dreams. Yay, you!

This will help you in the long run. Trust me, It has helped me in the long run. It's helped me change some things inside of my self: my attitude, my sympathy my compassion, and my empathy. I cannot get inside other people's minds, so whatever light I may share with my positive spiritual energy, I have learned to trust. Just remember, your own happiness will help you in the many facets of your life.

You can't change some things. We can only change our choices about those tough trials. We all have our own struggles, and so I hope my own happiness will rub off onto others. It is automatic. Remember, now is your time. Now is your moment to be who you want to be. It is a choice to be happy, now, moment to moment. So live it, love it, be it, and taste the joy welling up inside your mouth, creating a smile from your indescribable  soul spot.

Blessings,

THE IMPORTANCE OF WATER

10/19/2015

Today I would like to share with you how water influences my life. It is really important for me to drink a gallon of water a day. Why? As adults, if we eat a lot of processed foods, then we are probably dehydrated. It is important for us as we change our healthier lifestyle to drain out toxins. Water carries out all the "yucky" stuff through our sweat and our urine. Proper wateer consumption allows me to realize when I am truly hungry or just thirsty. It also helps me figure out when I am emotionally and socially hungry versus thirsty or not hungry at all!

Drinking a lot of water will help process all the toxins out of the body as well as assisting fat out of the body while on any fat loss protocol. Fat is eliminated though these systems (sweat and urine).

How do I get a lot of water in my system? I add flavor. I add savory things to my water like fresh tomato slices and basil leaves. I add cinnamon and apples, or strawberries and mint. Sometimes I add cucumbers. I let the jars sit overnight in the refrigerator. I buy big glass jugs or jars at the dollar store.

If you don't have 8 hours, use warm water and in 2 hours it will infuse the water. Remember, I'm not eating the fruits, just enjoying the water that was infused with the flavor a.

Be creative! Another flavor I like to use is ginger and peach or ginger and oranges. Upscale grocery stores sell these waters for eight dollars a jar, and you can make these at home for pennies.

Of course, upscale restaurants infuse water with lemons, limes, tangerines, and oranges. I like hot water with lemon, and also this help the liver detox foods and alcohol more rapidly. Perhaps this is why folks all over Asia enjoy hot water with lemon. They are helping the body with digestion and detoxification, as well as staying traditionally slimmer than the folks in the USA.

I want to hear from you! What do you do to make your water consumption increase?

Blessings,

CRAZY FOR PUMPKIN

The change of seasons always comes with a change in which vegetables and fruits are in season, fresh, local, and ripe.

My favorite color is orange, and the many shades of orange are apparent in the fall harvest. We have gourds, squashes, and of course, pumpkins! The pumpkin flavored EVERYTHING is available everywhere we turn. From bars, lattes, and pies to roasted veggies, soups, baked sweet potatoes, yams, and jack'o'lanterns, the autumn harvest seems endless.

The sunsets are amazing this time of year also. Even though San Francisco doesn't vary in its leaves changing colors during the autumn, the vibrant sunsets are awesome and breathtakingly beautiful. I'm at a loss for words most times I catch the sunset in September and October. I think of it as a birthday present just for me.

My 50th birthday is October 26, and pomegranates are my favorite fruit. I think God provided them around my birthday time on purpose! Halloween is my favorite holiday, and what a great time of year to celebrate anything with costumes! I never like regular biirthday cake anyway, so pumpkin pie and pomegranate juice is perfect birthday treat. Late berry harvests here give me a great (smoothie) reason to hike in the woods and forage for berries.

Pumpkin has many healthy benefits. It has lots of fiber, has vitamin A that we can absorb easily, builds immunity, and contains properties which naturally reduce blood glucose levels. Pumpkin also contains lots of water, so it helps with constipation too. The fiber also helps us stay fuller for a longer period of time when compared to the Standard American Diet.

Here's a celebratory recipe for you all to enjoy! It is sugar free and grain free, utilizing LAKANTO instead of sugar. Lakanto is my go-to, natural, healthy sweetener made from Chinese monk fruit.

PUMPKIN SPICE BARS

Ingredients:

1 cup almond or coconut flour

2 cups steamed pumpkin flesh, mashed

1 cup Lakanto

1/2 cup liquid egg whites

1 teaspoon pumpkin spice powder

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon salt

3 Tablespoons shredded raw coconut

1/4 cup raisins

1 cup Kerry Gold butter, melted

Directions:

Mix all ingredients into a bowl until smoothe.

Press onto greased parchment paper, on a cookie sheet about 1 inch thick. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes or until golden brown. The edges will be a bit darker. Cool 30 minutes and cut into bars, about 2x3 inches.

If you want a topping, make home made whipped cream with raw cream. Sweetener is not needed in the whipped cream. Another option is to top with coconut milk ice cream!

Enjoy!

I want to hear from you!

Blessings,
KJ Landis

Commitment is a Four Letter Word

10/5/2015

I had a dream last night. In my dream, I remember speaking to a large crowd and teaching that love and hate are not the opposite of each other. As Neal Donald Walsch wrote many years ago, the opposite of love is fear. I remember repeating over and over again, "Commitment is a four letter word."

I jumped out of bed to use the restroom and repeated this softly to myself so I wouldn't forget it when I went back to bed. Every time I woke up to go to the bathroom, I repeated it again (women my age use the bathroom a lot in the middle of the night).

Now that I am armed with coffee and the bright morning sun, what does this mean to me? Commitment is a four letter word. It means that commitment to any thing and any one is love based. The four letter word is LOVE! When one has a true love, a true passion for something, one will do the work to make the end good and true to the best of one's abilities. I did not say success is guaranteed. I said to the best of one's abilities! I do not give up on writing my blogs, books, teaching real food facts, and healing through building a tribe of support. I do not give up on my soul mate, whom I have known since 1989, when we happened to meet in a restaurant where I was the server and he was the guest. The refusing to give up on our relationships, goals, and wellness pursuits is love based.

Then the other part of the dream came to me this morning. I remember saying to the crowd, "Fear is a four letter word too." F-E-A-R. Ah, yes, the opposite of love! It all makes sense now. When we are fear based, we may get stuck. We may feel paralyzed. We may feel all alone. We may act out of fear, which may be perceived as hateful by others. I have a Negative Thought Pot, which I use to write down any fears or negative thoughts, and then burn up. I employ the use of the Negative Thought Pot in all of my workshops, so folks may feel open and ready to receive the teachings I'm giving to them. Sometimes the people joining my workshops are skeptical about the burning of their papers, but by the end of the class, they are really happy we started off that way!

I leave you with this: Commitment is a four letter word. Fear is also a four letter word. Knowledge is power, my friends. Have a blessed day.

I want to hear from you!
In Gratitude,
KJ Landis
