I Want What You Want

I want what you want. I am a simple person like you. I am a parent, a waitress, a coach, an exercise enthusiast, a cleaner, a wash person, a shopper, a beautiful person with pieces of life flying all around her. I am trying to catch all of the pieces of life flying all around me. I cannot catch them all, but I can catch love. I feel it all around me. My publicist keeps telling me that I need to write longer blogs with more scientific data. This time of year I feel like connecting heart to heart no matter how short or long.

I feel like I have had 9 lives. I have traveled and worked in over 40 countries during my lifetime. History has come alive for me. The most rewarding thing for me is having folks I have met tell me years later that I have had a positive impact on their lives. Whose life do you impact? How have others impacted yours? We have so many problems in the USA. but they are first world problems, really.

Real Talk About Food Portions

I was reading the side of a dried fruit box today. The ingredients list was accurate, but the nutritional data was incorrect. The reason why I feel it was incorrect was because nobody I know eats the portions that are metered out in the nutritional data area of every box and bagged food. When we grab a handful of fruits or vegetables, each person's hand is a different size. Therefore, a handful means different things to different people. Our portions are not what the box says either. I eat a large amount of food in quantity, but because it is the most healthful food that I can take into my body, the results in my body composition is different than somebody who is sedentary and eating the standard American diet.

Food companies who put these portions on packages know that if it looks low in calories, fats, and high in vitamins and minerals, we will most likely purchase that food with regularity. When I eat a piece of cheese, do I make sure it is 1 ounce like the box says the portion should be? Who eats one cup of popcorn? The side of my skinny popcorn bag clearly advertises that each cup is only 35 calories! Furthermore, when putting unhealthy nutrition facts on the sides of packaged and processed foods, if the food manufacturer puts small enough portions, and they use less than 1 gram of an unhealthy ingredient, they are permitted to say 0 grams of that toxic ingredient is inside the food. The key here is that food manufacturing companies make the portions very small on purpose so that they do not have to reveal all of the information. This is a legal loophole.

For me, I found the easiest and most healthy way to go about eating, is to choose foods that do not come in a box or prepackaged bag. For example, I prefer the produce section, and talk to my butcher and fish monger personally to find out where my food came from and how the animals are treated. When it comes to cheese, dairy, and healthy fats, I do my own research. Plus, we must be honest about our own portions and what we are taking in. It may not match the side of the butter container, almond butter container, or other information on the side of any packaged food, no matter how healthy it is.

Let's get real. Let's be honest. The truth will set you free. Allow yourself food freedom. We are not a slave to the advertising industry. We are not a slave to the processed food industry. This is our opportunity to take charge of what we put in our bodies and how much we put in our bodies. I am not about portion control. I am about being realistic. Be honest with yourself. I am. Becoming Aware of Signs

This may be the most important holiday message
you ever receive. I believe in signs. To be aware of them is tricky. For me, the first step is to invite symbols or signs into our lives. I do this by saying aloud or silently before I go to sleep, "Please send me a sign that teaches me a life lesson or allows me to do the same for others." I am open to receiving. With repetition of the invitation, the signs will reveal themselves to you. Once that occurs over and over again, the awareness increases, and you can see signs and symbols with heavy meaning or affirmations all around you. Sometimes they reveal themselves in quiet ways. Sometimes signs will reveal themselves through dreams. I know. Or, I believe I know. And, why not? I am deserving. So are you.

My my most recent signs have come to me in dreams. Last week I listened to a podcast by a PhD in psychology, and he said the answers from God, Spirit, or his muse woke him up at 3:13am. Then he had to write the info down immediately for helping his clients, his writing, his patients, or his personal questions. I was not open to that because I love to sleep 9-10 hours a night!

Wouldn't you know it, my muse had other ideas! I dreamed I was in a Ross Dress for Less store, looking at change purses and wallets in the accessory area. I kept finding wads of money and lots of coins with notes written on the leather interior or cloth interior from a woman named Sarah. She wrote inside the wallets and coin purses that if I found this, then I must really need the money and the encouragement that I was worthy. I must do something good for my family and friends with the money, and use my newfound money for good. Enhancing my life through my own good fortune and passing it on was the lesson for me in the sign. When I woke up from the dream it was 4:29am. I repeated the dream over and over again softly so I wouldn't forget. Plus, I was too lazy to get up and write it down with pen and paper in the kitchen area.

The second dream that night with signs was just as prolific for me. I was reading college textbooks in history of the world and US history. I was repeating and repeating the dates and facts as I was rushing to the university to take tests. I remember catching a history professor and yelling at him, "Why are we memorizing and memorizing? It serves no one in the modern times inlesss you relate facts and dates to what I do in my daily world now! It helps me not one bit unless it creates in me a kinder, gentler, more compassionate human experience! We students seek connection, relationships, and our goal as humans is to spread love above all!" The professor stopped in his tracks and smiled widely at me. "Well, we traditional educators never thought of history in that way before. Wow! You have got something special there!" From that dream, I woke up at 5:27am and also was too lazy to get up and write it down.

How do do these signs from my dreams talk to me and teach me something? Do they teach me something I can share with you? The first dream has become the basis of my holiday gift giving. I am going to stores all season long to place coins in small envelopes and quietly stuff them anonymously in wallets and change purses with notes of guidance to do good with the money. What a personal revolution! I invite you to do the same! It can be our own Secret Santa, all around the world!

The second dream contained signs and symbols which taught me that whatever mundane tasks we must do just to get through the end of the day, the end of the season, the end of the semester, etc., can be for good. We can spread love and connection through the murkiness of memorizing what we think of as boring. Use the knowledge, the tests, the patience earned with confrontations, etc, as a way to see, really see the big picture. What are we doing this stuff for? Just to say we did it, we got through it? No, we finish the task to say we did it in a way that becomes a vehicle for higher elevation and love in all facets of our lives. I know driving to work every day sucks, but what if one day on the commute, you listened to a mind blowing podcast that changes the way you forever answer the question, "How are you?" How many times a day do we give and receive that question?

Invite the signs, receive the signs, be aware that they are signs, interpret the signs, and act upon the signs in your own unique way. I want to hear from you.

The 80/20 Rule

In my books, videos, and coaching services, I often encourage people to allow themselves the full expression of their lives in as many ways as they can. What does that mean? Does that mean in order to be creative and have a blast as we live our lives to the fullest we need to destroy our health and relationships? No. It means as we shift and change to the shiniest version of ourselves, we have the opportunity to not allow the old voices to drag us down. The old voices may be our own, or the voices of those we surround ourselves with on a regular basis. Believe me, in the big picture of our whole lives on earth, our friends and family will not hate us, or even be disappointed in us long term if we say, "No thank you," to the candy, pies, cakes, breads, and the like. 

Now, go from that thought to the thought of the 80/20 rule. I believe if we eat clean and green 80 percent of the time, our health will benefit 100 percent of the time. The choices we make as our treats and celebrations outside of our normal lifestyle, as crazy as they may be, will not derail us long term in our wellness. I take rest days off from exercise. I take rest days off from juicing and vitamins. I take rest days off from work. I am learning to enjoy my 20 percent "PARTY LIKE A ROCK STAR" moments without negative self judgement and self deprecation. Now that, my friends is FOOD FREEDOM!! It is also what comes with time, with age, and with being comfortable in my own skin. 

The 80/20 rule does not mean eat some foods that you know will make you ill afterwards. That seems like punishment to me. We each have individual allergies, sensitivities, and desires, so let's work within our individual biochemistry.
