I say that we must read the labels. If a raw chocolate bar is full of agave syrup, organic, and has vanilla, or non GMO soy lecithin in it, as a thickener, PUT IT BACK! It is still a highly processed food! I see Paleo cookies with 24 grams of sugar in them, in one serving! Evaporated, organic cane juice is SUGAR! Put it back! Even the bakery at Whole Foods is touting items with the words Paleo on them. Eating a box of coconut and date rolls may be just two ingredients, but they are a treat. Dates, figs, and other dried fruit are very high in natural sugar. Please see these as a treat, not as an everyday thing. The media is putting their spin on a movement and food manufacturers are skewing things a bit off track.
Those organic potato chips made with olive oil, are highly processed nevertheless. I say take 20 minutes and bake your own in the oven with extra thin slices. I never see real kale chips at the store, just lots of flavorings and nuts crushed and added to make the kids like kale. Take 20 minutes and bake your own. Now those are good for you and addictive! Even jerky has sugar in it, as part of the curing process. Again, read the ingredients. I like Sophia's Survival Foods brand, with no sugar and 100% grass fed and grass finished meats.
Want fast food? I posted a YouTube video about what I take on the go. Check out the link above and look through my 2 minute video collection! Hey, hard boiled, pastured eggs are fast food! So are blocks of raw cheese! Grab some raw nuts or fresh celery, carrots, and cucumber slices. A whole avocado travels really well. I like Epic Bars as a treat, or Quest Bars as a treat. Nori without salt or sugar is delicious on its own, but brush your teeth afterwards (green teeth). Take those handmade kale or potato chips with you. Keep a few small jars of raw nut butters in the trunk of your car. Olives are fast food too. So are canned fish.
What do you grab and go for a quick and healthy bite? Have you tried the highly processed so-called Paleo treats? What do you think of the flavor profile? How long is the shelf life? That is usually an indicator of the level of quality in the food we buy. Check the expiration date. I wan to hear from you!
