My sweet cousin sent me a diagram that showed if one person reads or listens to a book, paper, radio show, or research interview on any subject that he or she is passionate about for one hour a day, in the course of seven years, that individual will be a world expert in his or her field of choice. Well, that boosted my ego big time! I am more than half way there, with daily lectures, podcasts, interviews, and reading the latest books and research on cutting edge nutrition science, movement, rest, recovery, brain power, and spiritual growth. I have taken certified courses from the most highly respected universities around the world in nutrition science, global health systems, and psychology.
Basically, I think it is the practice of consistency that shows up in one's life. If I practice anything regularly, I will get better at it. We tell our kids that when we encourage them to study, rehearse, or train. We tell ourselves that as we went to college and chose a major or minor. It is the attention to details that really show up with consistency. Rather than feel like we are going through the motions, when we pay attention to tiny nuances of our specialty, the real magic happens.
I encourage you to do your thing with attention on the intention. Wash, rinse, repeat. Beautiful things will show up in your life because you were consistent, and before you know it, you will proudly say, "I am an expert on..."
Don't give in and don't give up, my friends.
