"I want my toast and pasta, peanut butter sandwiches and soda is a treat!" Lox and bagels eventually shifted to lox on cabbage leaves or on seaweed leaves with raw creme fraiche. Cheddar bunny crackers became raw cheddar with apples. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches became raw cashew butter and raw honey or smashed figs on flax crackers without grains. They were just as satisfying, and kept the kids fuller longer.
When the kids began participating in their cooking and food choices, then the real creativity began. This led to bonding rather than whining. The tension subsided and we were able to shift into a new team of collaborators in the kitchen as well as a family. It wasn't just a hierarchy anymore. We grew in many ways outside of the kitchen too. We respected each other more in the areas of research and learning. We spent more time going to the library and looking up nutrition and cooking videos on line. My wellness and health journey to the grain free/sugar free side of life has been a win/win situation.
If you are making changes in your life, just know that you are not alone. I am here to help. It will get easier in time, and the family and friends will support you eventually, especially if you empower them and educate them as to the whys.
