The best piece of advice my amazing mother (now deceased) gave me was this: moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. I didn’t know about moisturizing when I was little and I watched her put her face together every morning before taking care of us 5 kids! And at the end of the night she washed her face with olive oil to take her makeup off and then moisturized with a water based moisturizer. I was fascinated by the jars and bottles of seemingly magical potions and creams that beautified my mother.
I was the youngest of the 5 kids at home, and being a girl, I wanted to follow my beautiful mother around like a little puppy dog! When I was 12 years old my mother took me downtown Pittsburgh, PA, and got our ears pierced together. I was so impressed that she waited for me to
grow up a little and have this as our preteen bonding ritual. On the way home we took a detour to a big department store and went to the beauty department. The lady behind the counter put lots of creams on me and gave my mother samples to take home.
It was so much fun for a kid to have the personal attention of two grown women that I subscribed to the moisturizing ritual for life. Now that I am grown, I moisturize from head to toe daily. I even make my own moisturizers. I have instilled in my children the same message: moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!
What is your most memorable piece of advice that your mother or guardian ever shared with you? I want to hear from you!
Blessings,
KJ Landis
