If I take 10 capsules of curcumin a day during a healing time after hitting my thumb with a hammer, I'm using a natural plant substance to help reduce inflammation, and therefore pain. This is biohacking.
If I use melatonin under my tongue about an hour before my desired sleeping time, I feel more rested and ready to go to bed when my desired time arrives. Melatonin is lower in our bodies naturally in the modern world due to the invention of electricity. At night, the world does not necessarily go dark, therefore our hormone melatonin may not be secreted. This is biohacking our sleep.
Is biohacking cheating? Some say designer sports hormones are just a form of biohacking. I say that the athletes still had to put a lot of hours of hard training in to get to the level of fitness they are in. They did not just pop a capsule and become Mr. Incredible.
When I take cinnamon capsules to help regulate my blood sugar, the day goes smoother for me in my energy output. There are not so many spikes and dips. This is biohacking, with delicious cinnamon.
In my opinion, if we can enjoy the flavors of foods that we know will enhance our lives without buying the capsules, by all means go for the whole food source. Our bodies already know what to do with a whole food source, and it is one less step in the process.
